New Mystics is an online Arts community founded in 2002 by Joey Madia, playwright, poet, novelist, actor, director, artist, musician, and teacher as a way to promote the work of a group of cutting edge writers and artists active in the Small and Independent Press.

In 2005 we formed New Mystics Theatre Company, Inc. (now New Mystics Arts), a social justice theatre company that now has 45 members in New Jersey and a second company in West Virginia that was formed in 2009. Our plays and anti/cyberbullying workshops have now reached over 15,000 young people.
In April 2006, through the collaborative efforts of a small but dedicated group of artists, our Literary and Visual Arts site was relaunched with nearly a dozen new and previous contributors working in a variety of styles, but all with one thing in common—their work is of a high quality and whether they are well established or just starting their public journey as writers and artists, they believe in taking risks, breaking down walls, and sharing their view of the world with integrity, personality, vision, and a clear and distinct Voice.
In August 2010, we opened the New Mystics Center for Arts and Education in Fairmont, WV.
New Mystics takes submissions on an open, continuous basis.
What is a New Mystic?
This is a question we are often asked.
A New Mystic, to us, is
a Socially Responsible Artist and Thinker;
a Seeker;
an Observer and Reporter of the times in which we live, and the context of what came before;
a believer that all things are connected and there is much to be mined from the overlapping stories and metaphors (to use a favorite word of Joseph Campbell) in all of the many branches of theological and philosophical thought.
The New Mystic is a walker between the worlds—actor, artist, writer, activist, philosopher, quantum physicist, shaman—one who knows the coin has no sides; the Zoroastrian duality is a veil of maya (an illusion), and that Anything is Possible.
The New Mystic is ultramodern and tied to the ways of the Ancients—a synthesizer of Renaissance ideals, social justice activism, and the New Technic of cyber-communication.
The New Mystic is an artist and visionary.
